About Annabelle Argeles

My name is Annabelle Argeles and I am currently a sophhmore at Florida State University. I am majoring in English - Editing, Writing, and Media as well as Business. Over the past three years, I have been designing on/for online platforms including family photo albums, high school yearbooks, and most recently an edition of FSU's ItaliaNoles Magazine. I love to design and to see my work printed for others to enjoy. Growing up, I have been an avid reader and this passion has only grown. I hope to work in the publishing industry to be involved in the book-making process.

Reflection

My love of designing things in a creative format started when I was in middle school. Oftentimes we had projects or presentations for courses and I would strive to make sure my final product was beautiful. I would go beyond the expected effort and really create a captivating piece. My powerpoints would be aesthetically pleasing but still informative. In 8th grade, my partner and I created a website about Jane Goodall - the inspiring chimpanzee enthusiast - for our Middle School History Fair. Not only did we receive an A on the in class assignment, but we advanced to the school wide competition, then to the county competition, and finally we advanced to the state-wide competition. Ever since this pivotal moment to my creative ego, I have loved to design things online. I joined the school’s yearbook, where I went on to become the editor in chief my senior year (of high school). I have designed my family vacation photo albums and created other albums as christmas/birthday presents for my friends. All of this has led me to today, where I am a student studying editing, writing, and media through the college of Arts and Science at Florida State University.

To navigate any website, it is very important that there are no hidden aspects to the site. Everything should be very straightforward and clear to follow. I tried to incorporate this conciseness by having multiple tabs sectioned off by relativity: home page, about, portfolio, writing, resume, and contact. The home page merely had my name and a picture of me taken by my friend, Callie Patterson, in 2020.

Additionally, I did not want to overwhelm the viewer with too many information directly after they opened my website. Having everything sectioned off by category not only makes it very easy to follow, but keeps it clean and concise. Every picture included in the ePortfolio - besides the one of me - was taken by me (which shows an additional creative aspect that I possess).

For the material that I included in my ePortfolio, I wanted to showcase both my written work and my creative designs, and some that exemplifies both. Under the tab portfolio, I included the publications that I have either worked on or was the editor in chief for, as well as links to documents that have spreads from said publication. Under the tab writing, I included the two major assignments I had from the Writing and Editing in Print and Online (WEPO) course, one being an open letter to the Publix corporation and the other being a feature article about a local rescue. I also included a short story I wrote while living in Italy that showcases my abilities as a writer, even though it is not my primary passion.

Taking WEPO, I have come to a deeper understanding of my passion for writing, editing, design, and the combination of them all into projects. My knowledge has also been enhanced from the assignments and the workshops we had in class. I will utilize this knowledge as I continue advancing in my academic career and hope it will propel me into the workforce of editing, writing, and media.
